Air Cactus

Air Cactus was a project where we had to create a product that didn't exist in Perth. The product I came up with was a cactus that floats. The work set for this project was to create web banners, kiosk posters, and pull up banners. The main focus wasn't just creating posters but it was aimed at how we marketed these posters.

Each poster had to have a purpose that linked to the main selling point which in our case was the Air Cactus website. The Web banners were aimed to be clicked on. The kiosk posters and pull down banners were meant to direct people into a collaboration store which would have an Air Cactus section which would promote the main website.

The selling point of Air Cactus was to reinvent household plants for people who don't have the time to look after plants. Cacti don't require much care. They need little water and they won't die if the owner is out of the house for days at a time.

Me and my partner when through several designs and concepts before we got to our chosen style. We wanted to keep it minimal and basic because the product was so unique that it spoke for itself. A first we had plain background images showing the whole cactus and base. We went on like this for weeks before we had to change the style. We had to change the style because it was looking dull. There was a floating cactus but it didn't look exotic or modern which was our goal, to reinvent household plants. So I made a poster where the base was zoomed in and focused on making the cacti. Through several feedback sessions it was decided that zooming in on the bases and showing off the cacti was a step in the right direction.
